Speaking of the Occupy Movement…
Four major labels own over 85% of all music sales in the United States. The big four – Universal, Sony, Warner, and EMI. Four major labels versus hundreds of thousands of labels (other ‘major’ and independent) and artists. For every $1,000 made at a major label, the typical artist only earns about $23.40 anyway (see theroot.com and here.)
All other independent labels and artists account for the remaining 15%. We are the 99.99999999%
Where’s the outrage and widespread support for starving, independent artists? Get out there and discover some new music today. Buy the music, don’t just download it. Share the music with your friends. Support the artists by seeing them live. Especially if they are on tour.
